The 6-month Check-Up

Amy had her visit with the doctor this morning, and I'm pleased to say that she has been deemed "a very healthy baby". I understand that to mean that she passed her "Well Child Exam". As of 9:42 AM she weighs 16 pounds, and is 26.5 inches long.

As far as the 5 immunizations go (HepB, DTaP, IPV, Hib, and PCV), the Hepatitis B, the Diptheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, and the Polio vaccines are now available in a combined vaccine called Pediarix, so Amy only ended up getting 3 shots total. Nice.

I say it's high time she gets a job.

You've probably already read my feeble excuses for not posting more often over on Lucy's blog. Perhaps I shouldn't consider the task of raising children a feeble excuse for not doing anything. It might be mundane at times, but it certainly isn't feeble.
Amy has her 6-month "well child exam" (that's the new fancy lingo the medical community uses instead of the good, old-fashioned "check up") tomorrow. Apparently, the phrase "check up" has been relegated to the use of auto mechanics and parole officers. ANYWAY, I'm excited to see how much Amy has grown. She won't be excited to learn that she is in for another round of immunizations. Five to be exact. Fortunately the nurse is so good she can do two at a time. And then mom can swoop in and comfort her from the pain caused by that mean old nasty nurse. (Who I find to be delightful and extremely friendly.)

Enough of that! Here's a look back at the last couple of months:

Update!

It's taken me a week or so to get this posted. I thought I had a few minutes of free time this morning, but lo and behold, who's starting to cry right this second?

Okay. Problem solved. And now for the update!

At Amy's 4 month check-up, she weighed 13.5 pounds and was 25 inches long. The doctor said we could start her on a little rice cereal. So we did. Rice cereal tastes about as good as it looks--pasty and nondescript. Amy is duly unimpressed.

I don't know how much longer we're going to be able to keep her blissfully ignorant of the taste of real food. She is VERY interested in what we eat, and makes a grab for whatever is closest.

And it's not the cute "baby grab" that most babies have...you know the one: they reach out and the fingers curl around air. Not Amy, she grabs with precision and agility and hangs on tight!

In other Amy news, she has discovered her feet.

It's Been So Long!

It has been way too long since I've updated the blogs. First came Christmas, then the New Year, and then we crashed and burned with major colds this last week. Poor Lucy got the worst of it, but you can read all about it over at her blog.

Amy is growing every day! She is now able to hold things in her hand. She has learned to roll from her back to her tummy, but can't yet roll back. She sucks her thumb when she is falling asleep, and smiles pretty much all the time. We've even heard her giggle once or twice, when she thinks we are exceptionally funny. In recent days, she has become increasingly interested when she sees us eating. If she is sitting on my lap, she reaches out and tries to grab the fork or spoon from me. I'm still faster than she is. (Neener, neener.)

Enjoy a few pictures before you head on over to Lucy's blog.

More soon!

See How I'm Growing!

Still has that "deer-in-the-headlights" look about her, but she's darling in real life!
